Principal

Joe knows how to weave economic data and other insights into strategies that have successfully converted small town business districts into multi-million dollar redevelopment projects. He has a remarkable ability to find nuggets of information that spark private and public investment in communities.

The founding principal of JGSC Group, Joe Getz has spent 30 years helping communities large and small develop strategies for revitalization and economic growth. He has created marketing campaigns and strategic plans for shopping malls, retailers, real estate developers, and consumer products companies. He developed the company’s principal product, Community Insights®—an economic analysis/strategic recommendation process for revitalization. 

Joe has directed market analysis and developed strategic plans for more than two-dozen redevelopment studies in all five boroughs of New York City, led targeted retail recruitment programs, and has directed revitalization efforts in over 200 communities across 19 States). In Gloucester County, NJ, for example, Joe conceived and directed a regional economic planning analysis for 24 communities. 

Over the course of his career, he has pioneered programs to gauge shoppers’ perceptions and define consumers’ wants and needs to inform strategic plans for retail attraction, retention, and marketing to retailers, developers, and business owners. He has prepared business district design standards for municipal clients.

Joe has served as counsel on economic revitalization to Main Street New Jersey and Main Street Delaware. He has provided instructional sessions for the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), and the New Jersey Downtown Revitalization & Management Institute, and has served on the Technical Advisory Committee of the NJ Highlands Council for economic development issues. He has been a featured speaker at regional and national conferences where he shares his insights on destination marketing and stimulating economic growth in downtowns. 

Joe studied Business Administration at the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to forming JGSC Group in 1997, Joe held executive positions at leading advertising and marketing agencies where he created strategic plans for shopping malls, retailers, and consumer products companies across the country.
